What Riley Keough Has Said About Smoking and Drinking Habits

Riley Keough is an American actress who received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress for her breakthrough performance as an escort in the first season of the anthology series The Girlfriend Experience in 2016. 

Keough received more praise for her portrayal of a rebellious young lady in the 2016 drama American Honey, which led to an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Female. 

She spent her childhood acting in plays and even filming her own home movies with the goal of becoming an actress. However, as she admitted to InStyle, Riley “had a really practical perspective about it all for a child.”

She made the decision to wait till she was older to begin performing professionally, even though she knew she wanted to work in show business one day. She also knew she wanted to have a typical upbringing and complete her schooling before beginning her career.

Riley Keough’s Career

The granddaughter of Elvis Presley and the daughter of singer Danny Keough was a model who walked the runway for Dolce & Gabbana and appeared in advertisements for labels like Dior and David Yurman, among others, before being cast as Marie Curie opposite Kristen Stewart in the 2010 film The Runaways.

When her parents tried to dissuade her from pursuing an acting profession by calling it “a heartbreaking industry,” she responded that she would “simply be a model then and make some money,” according to the talk with Interview. 

Even though Keough claimed her parents had second thoughts about her becoming an actress, she made her modeling debut at the age of 14.

Keough then went on to star in Soderbergh’s heist movie Logan Lucky (2017), the horror movie It Comes at Night (2017), and other horror movie performances in The House That Jack Built and The Lodge. 

After playing the lead in the comedy drama Zola (2020), Keough co-directed the Caméra d’Or-winning drama War Pony (2022). Since then, she has acted in the drama series The Terminal List.

Keough revealed her drinking habits and shared her experience during her 28th birthday when she went out for a celebratory dinner with friends and family. “I drank some wine,” she shrugs. “But I don’t like drinking, really. I have so much to do and it’s hard to function with a hangover.”

When asked if the actress has ever had difficulty sleeping, she said, “All the time, but since I quit smoking a while ago, it’s been a lot easier,” to Interview Magazine in 2015.
