What Thrush in Pregnancy?

Thrush is an inflammation of the vagina and vulva (outer parts of the genitals). It is caused by a type of yeast called Candida. Pregnancy increases your risk of getting thrush. Thrush is uncomfortable, but it won't cause any long term harm to you and won't harm your baby.

What does pregnancy thrush look like?

Most women experience occasional bouts of a common yeast infection known as vaginal thrush. It causes itching, irritation and swelling of the vagina and surrounding area, sometimes with a creamy white cottage cheese-like discharge.

How do you get thrush in pregnancy?

Often triggered due to consumption of antibiotics or wearing tight clothing and underwear, pregnant women can get thrush because of the rapid changes affecting their bodies. Hormonal imbalances, and especially the high level of oestrogen, increases the likelihood of developing vaginal thrush.
