What's a Birthing Ball?

An exercise ball is a ball constructed of soft elastic, typically in 5 diameters of 10-centimeter increments, from 35 centimeters to 85 centimeters, and filled with air. The air pressure is changed by removing a valve stem and either filling with air or letting the ball deflate.

How to use a birthing ball. You can sit on your birthing ball from very early on in pregnancy. Then, from around 32 weeks, you can use it to help you with some gentle pregnancy exercises (see below) although you should always check with your GP or midwife before you try them.

Using a birthing ball can also help you adopt different upright positions, which can help you to labour effectively.
