What's a Blind Hem?

A blind stitch in sewing is a method of joining two pieces of fabric so that the stitch thread is invisible, or nearly invisible. Blind stitching hides stitching under folded edges; therefore, this type of stitch can be used to create a blind hem or to join two folded edges together.

What does a blind hem foot do?

During blind hemming, the fold of the fabric fits snugly against the guide in the foot for accuracy wile the groove underneath help to prevent unnecessary slipping. The needle swings over the metal guide creating slack in the upper tension so that the pick of the stitch is almost invisible.

Do you need a blind hem foot?

You can choose to use the blind hem foot attachment if you have one, but it is not necessary in order to do the stitch. This tutorial is done without the blind hem foot. However, the foot does help by providing a guide for stitching.
