A gallbladder attack usually causes a sudden gnawing pain that gets worse. You may feel it in the upper right or center of your belly, in your back between your shoulder blades, or in your right shoulder. You might also vomit or have nausea. Pain usually lasts 20 minutes to an hour.
How do I know if my pain is from my gallbladder?
- Sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in the upper right portion of your abdomen.
- Sudden and rapidly intensifying pain in the center of your abdomen, just below your breastbone.
- Back pain between your shoulder blades.
- Pain in your right shoulder.
- Nausea or vomiting.
When should you go to the ER for gallbladder pain?
Seek immediate medical care or call 911 if you or someone you are with has any of these symptoms with a gallbladder attack: Abdominal swelling, distention or bloating for more than a few hours. Dark, tea-colored urine and clay-colored stools. High fever (higher than 101 degrees Fahrenheit)
