Trinket boxes have taken on many forms since their first conception in ancient times. However their purpose remains the same; to store jewellery and other items precious to the owner. Originally, these boxes were used specifically for jewellery.
What do you keep in a trinket box?
Most trinket boxes are too small to hold any significant piece of jewelry, but they can be given as gift boxes for earrings, rings, cufflinks, or other small pieces. The trinket box became popular during the Victorian era when people enjoyed adding souvenirs and tchotchkes to their homes.
How do you make a small trinket box?
TO MAKE:
- Step 1: Work out the size of your box – mine is 30cm wide and 20cm high – then measure and mark timber.
- Step 2: Cut four pieces of timber using the dropsaw: top, bottom and two sides.
- Step 3: Give every sawn surface a thorough sanding.
- Step 4: Position side pieces of timber on base of box.
