What's a Uterine Ablation?

Endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure that is used to remove or destroy the endometrial lining of the uterus in women who have heavy menstrual bleeding. Endometrial ablation should never be performed on women who wish to have children.

Is a uterine ablation painful?

Largely, back pain is not normal, though some abdominal cramping immediately following the surgery is to be expected. In rare cases, some women develop cyclic pelvic pain (CPP) after the procedure, which can last for months or even years. This may be a potential indication of late-onset endometrial ablation failure.

How long is recovery from uterine ablation?

It shouldn't take you long to heal from an ablation. Most women are back to their normal routine within a few days. You may have some cramping and bleeding for a few days and a watery or bloody discharge for up to 3 weeks. It's also common to have nausea and an urge to pee for the first 24 hours.
