What's an Inversion Table?

Inversion tables allow you to strap yourself in and tilt backward at an angle or completely upside down. The theory behind it is simple: Hanging upside down can take the pressure off the nerves of the spine and give the squishy disks between the vertebrae room to relax.

Can inversion tables hurt you?

While there is generally no harm in trying inversion tables or traction devices, there are some patients who should never use this treatment. Patients with hypertension, circulation disorders, glaucoma, or retinal detachments should not use inversion table therapy.

Do inversion tables help lower back pain?

Inversion tables may offer relief to patients struggling with low back pain. These reclining tables help stretch the muscles and soft tissue around the spine, and provide a slight pulling from gravity (traction) to take pressure off of the nerves and disc between bones of the spine (vertebrae).
