When Apt Is Used?

You can use it to find and install new packages, upgrade packages, clean your packages, etc. There are two main tools around APT: apt-get and apt-cache. apt-get is for installing, upgrading, and cleaning packages, while apt-cache command is used for finding new packages.

What is apt used for?

Advanced Package Tool, or APT, is a free-software user interface that works with core libraries to handle the installation and removal of software on Debian, and Debian-based Linux Distributions.

When should I use apt update?

You need to run apt-get update once before installing new packages as this updates the local repository information. If you are going to install multiple packages shortly after each other, you do not need to run apt-get update before each install; just once before the first install.
