When Are Tayberries Ripe?

Tayberries are ripe when they easily pull off the cane. Fruit will not continue to ripen after picking so be sure to wait until fruit is ripe before picking. The fruit will ripen from red to black, but do not pick them as soon as they turn black, wait 3-4 days and pick when the color has a dull appearance.

What Colour are ripe tayberries?

Description. The mature tayberry fruit – reddish-purple when ripe – is cone-shaped, and can be up to 4 cm (11⁄2 in) long. Similar to the blackberry, the receptacle (the "core") remains in the berry when it is picked.

How do you pick tayberries?

When looking for the perfect tayberries to pick, make sure they're deep, dark purple, ideally soft and oozing juice - these are the very sweetest berries you'll find. If you pick the firmer, smaller, pinker berries (similar to raspberries) you'll find them quite tart and not half as delicious!
