What is the history of woodcut?
Woodcut originated in China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later on paper. The earliest woodblock printed fragments to survive are from China, from the Han dynasty (before 220), and are of silk printed with flowers in three colours.

Woodblock printing has made tremendous contributions to the spread of knowledge, insight and artistic inspiration. The earliest woodblock printed illustration extant today was made in the year 868, at the time of the Tang Dynasty (618 – 907).
