When Did Marketing First Begin

The history of marketing starts much earlier than most people think. While there is some dispute around how marketing truly began, many historians believe the concept started as early as 1500 BCE (before common era) when Mesopotamian societies started mass production of goods that required quality control.

What was the earliest form of marketing?

The first step toward modern advertising came with the development of printing in the 15th and 16th centuries. In the 17th century, weekly newspapers in London began to carry advertisements, and by the 18th century, such advertising was flourishing.

When did marketing evolved?

It was around the 1940s when industries realized that focusing only on their business needs often leaves customers unsatisfied. At this stage, businesses’ marketing tactics include identifying what customers need and effectively customizing activities that address these needs. Hence, the marketing concept was born.
