When Do Snails Mate?

Mating happens after the sunset, when the snails are at their peak activity. The slow mating process is completed, the sperm can remain in the snail for up to a year, but usually snails lay eggs within two weeks. Snails are mature enough to start reproducing from one month and a half to 5 years, depending on species.

What season do snails mate?

In less ideal climates, they breed in the late spring or early summer, but in humid, tropical climates they can breed year-round, up to five times a year, and can even store extra sperm for up to a year in case they do not find another mate.

Can a snail mate with itself?

They have both female and male reproductive cells (they are hermaphrodite). They don't actually need to mate with another snail in order to reproduce, self fertilisation is possible.
