For the longest time, the identity of Naruto’s father was kept a secret. What were the hints & signs that pointed to Minato Namikaze? When Naruto learns who his parents are, he finally realizes his significance to Konohagakure as the son of Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage and hero who stopped the Nine-Tails.

Not telling Naruto his parentage was a decision made well before he could talk. As to why Kakashi himself didn’t tell him, it was the same reason that no one else who knew or figured it out told naruto either, naruto was quite simply a loud mouth (and children aren’t known for keeping secrets).
