When Is an Engagement Ring Too Small?

If your ring flat-out just isn't budging off your finger, you're more than likely dealing with a ring that doesn't fit. If you see a little pudge of skin folding over the top of your ring (a phenomenon we so lovingly refer to as ring muffin top), your ring is probably too snug.

How tight should an engagement ring be?

A perfect ring should be able to slide easily over your knuckle, and sit on your finger tight enough so that you can feel the metal of the ring touching every part of your skin. Additionally, taking the ring off should require no large effort. It should be able to come off without having to pull at it excessively.

What happens if an engagement ring is too small?

To make a ring smaller, the jeweler will cut out a piece of the band, form it back into a perfect circle, and then solder it back together. Then the jeweler will clean it off and polish it. Don't worry: Once the process is finished, there will be no evidence that the ring was ever cut.
