When Should I Put My Bird to Sleep

Let them sleep as long as they can. Unless their bird cages are covered, birds usually awaken when the sun comes up. Keep in mind that your bird should have at least 10 hours of darkness, so if the sun rises at 6:30 a.m., you should not keep your bird up past 8:30 p.m. the night before.

How do you know when to put your bird down?

  1. Eat, drink and sleep comfortably without shortness of breath.
  2. Act interested in what’s going on around them.
  3. Do mild exercise.
  4. Have control of their urine and bowel movements – unless the disease affects one of these organ systems.
  5. Appear comfortable and free of moderate to severe pain.

Is it okay to let your bird sleep with you?

The Risk of Suffocating Your Bird Some birds love to snuggle, and it can be tempting to at least nap on the bed with your bird. However, sleeping in the same bed as your bird is never a good idea. The risk of rolling over and suffocating him is too great.
