Manure should be applied as soon as possible after cutting to reduce potential injury to the regrowth. Apply manure when soil is not wet. Driving heavy manure spreaders on wet soils causes soil compaction. Nitrogen application rate should be based on the expected yield of the next growth.
When should manure be applied?
On other edible crops, fresh manure applications should be made at least three months prior to harvest. With just a four month or so growing season, this means you should only apply fresh manure in the fall; not in the spring or during the growing season to any area that is or will be planted with food crops.
In which season should you not spread manure?
Spreading manure in the winter is discouraged because it is a high risk time period for nutrient losses and contamination of surface water.
