When to Check Fundal Height?

Starting at about 20 weeks, your healthcare provider will measure your fundal height - the distance from your pubic bone to the top of your uterus - at each of your prenatal visits. This measurement helps your provider estimate your baby's size, growth rate, and position during the second half of your pregnancy.

How do you measure your fundal height?

Using a tape measure that measures centimeters, place the zero marker at the top of the uterus. Move the tape measure vertically down your stomach and place the other end at the top of your pubic bone. This is your fundal height measurement.

When does midwife measure fundal height?

Your doctor or midwife will start measuring the fundal height at your antenatal appointments from about 20 weeks onwards. Its purpose is to keep track of your baby's growth, providing you with a lovely little snapshot of how your baby is developing throughout your pregnancy.
