When to Harvest Daphnia?

You will need to wait until the daphnia have been in the tank for a couple of weeks before harvesting, this allows time for the colony to have grown slightly and ensures that you leave enough daphnia behind in the colony to keep the numbers at a satisfactory level.

How do you collect Daphnia?

You can culture daphnia quite easily in plastic tubs kept outside under a shady area. Fill a container with tapwater and add a handful of lawn or garden fertiliser. Wait until the water goes green and soapy and then add some daphnia. A few weeks later you can transfer some of them into a new container of green water.

How long does it take for Daphnia to mature?

It only takes eight days for a baby Daphnia to grow to maturity and begin breeding. Each Daphnia has ten babies.
