Strawberries should be renovated as soon as possible at the end of harvest season each year. After harvest, strawberries go through a semi-dormant stage for about 4-6 weeks, which usually starts around the first of June and lasts through the middle of July.
When should strawberries be moved?
Carefully digging up the younger plants should be done in the fall. Typically, late August is the best time to transplant for most of the zones in the United States. However, in the warmer zones of the south, transplanting can be done later.
How long do strawberry beds last?
Well-maintained strawberry plantings that are renovated annually may remain productive for four or five years. Poorly managed beds may be productive for only two or three years. Renovation of June-bearing strawberries in early summer is the first step to ensuring a good fruit crop next year.
