Non-vented or continuous soffit works best when your roof has narrow eaves or if you need to ventilate a large amount of attic space. Vented soffit panels are good with a wider eave and a smaller amount of attic space because they have smaller vents between solid panels.
Should you use all vented soffit?
Yes.
Generally the soffit should have a vent every 6 feet or so. You're going to want to match it on both sides of the house. It's called a "cool attic system", and what happens is that cool air enters the attic at its lowest point (the soffit vents) and travels into the attic, helping push the hot air up an out.
What are soffit vents used for?
These vents allow outside air to enter the attic at the lowest point of the roof—along the underside of the eave. They're most effective when used in conjunction with a continuous ridge vent. Soffit vents come in several sizes and styles, including small round discs and rectangular grilles.
