When Was Lake Taneycomo Built?

History: Lake Taneycomo (short for Taney County Missouri) was created in 1913 when the White River was captured by the newly constructed “Power Site” Dam, near Forsyth, Missouri.

Why is Taneycomo a lake and not a river?

The completion of Table Rock Dam in 1958 changed the source of water to Taneycomo from that of the White River's flowing waters to the bottom tailwater of Table Rock Lake from the dam spillway and made it into a cold water lake.

When was Taneycomo built?

Formed with the completion of Powersite Dam in 1913, Lake Taneycomo was originally a section of the White River. Although it is now technically a lake, Taneycomo's narrow arms and forested shores retain the look and feel of a river.
