When Was Newgrange Found

The landowner, Charles Campbell, needed some stones and asked his workers to carry some away from the cairn. When those stones were moved, the entrance to this extraordinary tomb was uncovered.

What was discovered near Newgrange in 1982?

A stone, similar to those which ring the passage grave, was also unearthed at Newgrange recently. Along with the stone Mr. Sweetman discovered traces of poles in a number of the pits which indicates that the area was the scene of pagan rituals.

When was Newgrange built?

Newgrange is the best known Irish passage tomb and dates to c. 3,200BC. The large mound is approximately 80m in diameter and is surrounded at its base by a kerb of 97 stones. The most impressive of these stones is the highly decorated Entrance Stone.
