When Was Zoloft Invented

Zoloft, introduced in 1992, was the first enantiomerically pure SSRI drug to hit the market.

Where did Zoloft come from?

Zoloft comes from a class of antidepressant drugs known as SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Other SSRIs include Paxil, Prozac, Symbyax, Lexapro and Celexa. SSRIs control depression and other mental illnesses and have been around since the early 1980s.

Why did Zoloft get recalled?

Pfizer Inc. is recalling 30-count bottles of 25-mg Zoloft (sertraline hydrochloride) tablets (NDC 0049-4960-30), according to the January 10, 2018, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report. The company cited weight variations in the tablets that have caused superpotent and subpotent drugs.
