Where Do Begonia Bulbs Grow

Choose a planting location that is somewhat shaded, receiving indirect bright sunlight if at all possible. It is very important that the garden bed or container you choose has good drainage as begonia tubers are susceptible to rot if allowed to sit wet too long.

Where do begonia tubers grow?

  • Start tubers into growth in March or April at 18°C (64°F)
  • Fill a seed tray 7.5cm (3in) deep with moist sandy potting compost.
  • Place tubers on the surface of the compost, hollow side uppermost, 2cm (¾in) apart and 2.5cm (1in) deep.

Do begonias have bulbs?

Tuberous begonias produce beautiful rose-like flowers in a variety of colors. They are started from tubers, which many refer to as bulbs, and should be planted in early spring. Gardeners love begonias because unlike most other flowering plants, they prefer shade over sun.
