The Blandford fly (Simulium posticatum) is a species of black flies, biting insects found in Europe, Turkey and western Siberia. It spends its larval stage in the weedbeds of slow flowing rivers and when the fly emerges, the female seeks a blood meal before mating.

- Clean the bite area and dry gently.
- Don't scratch the bite, as this can lead to infection.
- Apply a cold compress or calamine lotion.
- Antihistamine creams are not recommended, as they can sometimes cause skin reactions.
- Cover large blisters with a dry dressing.
