Where Do You Position a Greenhouse

Generally, the best spot for a greenhouse is on the south or southeast side of the house in a sunny area that gets the most sun from fall through winter (November to February in most places). If this option doesn’t exist, the next best location for the greenhouse is the east side.

Can you put a greenhouse in the shade?

A bit of light shade is ok but…..you really want to position the geenhouse where it will get the maximum number of hours of sunshine. Light of course is very important unless you are growing ferns or shade loving plants. East west orientation is preferred but you may not have that choice.

Which way should a greenhouse face?

The length of the greenhouse (longer dimension) should face South as this is where the majority of light comes from in the Northern hemisphere. The North side of the greenhouse will collect little, if any light, and is best insulated to reduce heat loss.
