Where Does King George Whiting Come from?

King George Whiting are endemic to the waters of southern Australia. Generally they prefer channels, broken reefs and seagrass meadows as their habitats.

A lectotype was finally designated by McKay in 1985. The species has a variety of common names (many now obsolete), with the most common, “King George whiting”, taken from the name of the body of water where the initial description was made.

Where to fish. King George whiting live in coastal marine habitats and estuaries, over sand, weed and low-lying reefs. In South Australia KGW prefer sandy environments during summer and reef environments during winter.
