Where Does Plastron Come from?

The carapace and plastron each arose from two types of bones: dermal bones that form in the skin and endochondral bone (bone arising from cartilage) derived from the skeleton.

Where is the plastron located?

The plastron (plural: plastrons or plastra) is the nearly flat part of the shell structure of a turtle, what one would call the belly or ventral surface of the shell. It also includes within its structure the anterior and posterior bridge struts and the bridge of the shell.

What animal has plastron?

What are turtle shells made of? A turtle's shell consists of a top, which is called a carapace, and a bottom, which is called a plastron, that are composed of bone and cartilage.
