Where Does the Chimera Live?

Chimaera live in all the world's oceans, except the Antarctic. They're found at depths ranging from 200-2,600m, and appear to remain within a few metres of the seafloor. They can be found in a variety of habitats.

Where is the Chimera from?

The Chimera was a legendary, fire-breathing monster of Greek myth that hailed from Lycia (southwestern Asia Minor). The offspring of Typhon and Echidna, the Chimera ravaged the lands of Lycia until Bellerophon, a hero from Corinth, mounted on the winged horse Pegasus was able to slay it (Hesiod Theogony 319-25).

How did Chimera die?

The weakened Chimera was finally killed when Bellerophon attached a lump of lead to the end of his spear and thrust this into the monster's mouth. The flaming breath of the creature melted the lead which then poured down its throat and solidified in its vital organs.
