A sound is a marine geographic formation, which is located along coastlines around the world. It is characterized as an inlet of seawater that diverts from the main ocean and may take one of two forms.

In geography a sound is a large sea or ocean inlet larger than a bay, deeper than a bight, wider than a fjord, or it may identify a narrow sea or ocean channel between two bodies of land (see also strait). There is little consistency in the use of ‘sound’ in English-speaking cartography.

Where is the sound sea?

The Sound, Danish Øresund, Swedish Öresund, strait between Zealand (Sjælland), Denmark, and Skåne, Sweden, connecting the Kattegat strait (northwest) with the Baltic Sea (south). The Sound is one of the busiest sea lanes in the world.
