One important aminopeptidase is a zinc-dependent enzyme produced and secreted by glands of the small intestine. It helps the enzymatic digestion of proteins. Additional digestive enzymes produced by these glands include dipeptidases, maltase, sucrase, lactase, and enterokinase.
Where is peptidase released?
Peptidase is also known as protease or proteinase. They are produced in the stomach, small intestine and pancreas and are responsible for the cleavage of peptide bonds between amino acids via hydrolysis reactions, as shown in figure 1.
Where is the enzyme carboxypeptidase produced?
The enzyme carboxypeptidase A is secreted by the pancreas and is used to speed up this hydrolysis reaction. As seen in Figure 2, this enzyme consists of a single chain of 307 amino acids. It assumes a compact, globular shape containing regions of both a helices and b pleated sheets.
