Germany is a top one, with its long history of textile and crafts. It's known for producing high quality yarn and unique brands who make fabulous rich colours of yarns with various textures. Canada is also famed for knitting, which is understandable as a country that suffers harsh winters!

Knitted wool garments became popular in the UK from Medieval times onwards, because of their weather-resistant qualities, particularly among soldiers, sailors and labourers.

Is knitting or crocheting more popular?

I get that knitting is more popular and more widely practiced and that a great deal of our fabrics and textile manufacturing is still knitted. But I don't know why. In my opinion and experience, crocheting is easier to learn, easier to master and much more versatile than knitting. You can teach a little kid to crochet.
