Where Is Spelt From

Spelt is one of the world’s most ancient grains: it’s native to Iran and parts of Europe and was one of the first species of wheat ever used to make bread. Also known as farro or dinkel, it is a sub-species of wheat.

Where is spelt grown in the world?

But now it is being grown by organic farmers throughout Britain. Spelt is particularly well suited to organic production because its tough husk naturally protects the tender grain inside from pests and diseases, so there is no need for pesticides.

Is spelt German?

In Germany spelt is referred to as dinkel…Germany’s premier grain of choice. Spelt is higher in nutritional value than that of common wheat, higher in water solubility making it easier to digest and invaluable to those that suffer with certain wheat allergies/sensitivities.
