Anatomically, the SMAS lies inferior to the zygomatic arch and superior to the muscular belly of the platysma. The fibromuscular layer of the SMAS integrates with the superficial temporal fascia and frontalis muscle superiorly and with the platysma muscle inferiorly.
Where is the SMAS muscle?
The superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is a tissue sheet of collagen and elastin fibers, and fat cells extending from the neck up to the forehead (Mitz and Peyronie, 1976). It plays a key role in facial expression by connecting mimetic muscles to the dermis.
What does SMAS stand for?
SMAS Worksafe (short for Safety Management Advisory Services) is a nationally recognised Health & Safety accreditation used to demonstrate your business' Health & Safety standards, giving main contractors confidence when it comes to your competence.
