Where Is Willow Herb Found?

Originally hailing from Eurasia and North Africa, the Hairy Willow-Herb now inhabits parts of Australia, Canada and the United States. The purple bloomer was largely planted as an ornamental flower in the early 1800s, but soon became a prolific garden weed. Hairy Willow-Herb, Epilobium hirsutum.

Where can I find Willow Herb?

Found in low pastures, ditches, wetlands, stream banks, fields and meadows. Often found growing in the same habitat as and can co-exist with purple loosestrife. Hairy willow-herb can out-grow purple loosestrife in the fall, although the reverse is true in the spring.

Where does Willow Herb come from?

Chamaenerion angustifolium is a native perennial weed which spreads by seed and rhizomes (underground stems) and is unsuitable in a small garden. It is found growing on waste land, scrub, rocks, woodland and also gardens where it can become a serious weed.
