Is Backcountry true story?
“Backcountry” includes a brief notice that it's based on a true story, and Mr. MacDonald has said he was partly inspired by an Ontario couple's real-life wilderness nightmare.
Did they use a real bear in Backcountry?
MacDonald wanted as real a feel as possible and used intimate close-ups of the animal. One shot from inside a tent shows the bear's head poking in. The filmmakers used real bears, not animatronic ones.
