Which Animal Has Scaly Skin?

Reptiles are turtles, snakes, lizards, alligators and crocodiles. Unlike amphibians, reptiles breathe only through their lungs and have dry, scaly skin that prevents them from drying out. Amphibians and reptiles are together called herpetofauna, or “herps” for short.

Why reptiles have dry scaly skin?

Fact: reptiles need to regulate their own body temperature. Unlike a fur coat that most animals wear, these little creatures need to adapt to their environment to maintain a healthy lifestyle. By having scaly skin, it helps reptiles gain heat when they need it most — and makes the process of adapting very simple.

Are mammals skin scaly?

One of the main characteristics that is used to distinguish one class of animals from another is type of skin covering. Mammals have hair or fur, birds have feathers, reptiles have dry scales, amphibians have soft, moist skin, and fish have wet, slimy scales.
