Nights 1 & 2: Unswaddle the non-dominant arm first, inside the sleep sack. Nights 3 & 4: Unswaddle the other arm, inside the sleep sack. Nights 5 & 6: Remove the swaddle completely, so child is “free like a bird” inside the sleep sack. Night 7 & 8: Remove the non-dominant arm from the sleep sack.
Which arm do you swaddle out of?
Use the Zen Sack over the basic onesie and then on top of the Zen Sack, wrap your baby with a light muslin swaddle just around the arms. Then gradually, roughly one week at a time, take one arm out starting with the dominant arm, then the second arm until your baby no longer needs her arms out.
How do you Unswaddle a baby?
- Start by swaddling your baby with one of her arms out of the swaddle.
- A few nights later after she's gotten used to having one arm out, move on to swaddling her with both of her arms free.
- A few nights after that, stop using the swaddle blanket altogether.
