He began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1971 and was sorted into Gryffindor House after the Sorting Hat pondered over which house he belonged in for over five minutes, a true Hatstall.
Why was Peter Pettigrew in Gryffindor?
Sorting is more about your values than qualities you actually possess. The hat probably saw that while Pettigrew was a coward he valued courage in others so he placed him in Gryffindor where it seemed he wanted to be and hoped it would serve him best.
What house should Peter Pettigrew be in?
But what makes him a Gryffindor? Funnily enough, Harry Potter himself provides us with an answer. It's possible to influence the Sorting Hat with your own wishes and desires. This is the key reason Peter Pettigrew became a Gryffindor.
