Who Is Fargo

Why is Fargo called Fargo?

Even though the movie takes place mostly in Brainerd, Minnesota, the Coen brothers decided to call it Fargo, which is in North Dakota, just because they liked the sound of it for a title better than Brainerd, which “was not cool enough.” Fargo is where Jerry Lundegaard meets the two hoods he hires to kidnap his wife.

What does Fargo mean in the TV series?

Hawley says Fargo is more like a metaphor than a location: “It’s like a state of mind. It’s a word that describes a sort of frozen hinterland that makes you think of a certain type of story.” Now that’s all well and good but maybe there’s another reason to keep the name.
