Who Is Mendicancy Squad?

(US) Police who arrested beggars and homeless people.

Has that word on the lookout for the mendicancy squad?

This is a fairly low rent, so although it is not rundown beyond description ("beggar description"), it "had that word on the lookout for the mendicancy squad"; that is, the apartment was very close to appearing to be a place where homeless beggars would dwell.

What is meant by mendicancy?

1 : the condition of being a beggar. 2 : the practice of begging.
