Web crawlers are mainly used to create a copy of all the visited pages for later processing by a search engine, that will index the downloaded pages to provide fast searches. Crawlers can also be used for automating maintenance tasks on a Web site, such as checking links or validating HTML code.
Why do we use crawler?
A web crawler, or spider, is a type of bot that is typically operated by search engines like Google and Bing. Their purpose is to index the content of websites all across the Internet so that those websites can appear in search engine results.
Why do we need to crawl in search engines?
Pages known to the search engine are crawled periodically to determine whether any changes have been made to the page's content since the last time it was crawled. If a search engine detects changes to a page after crawling a page, it will update it's index in response to these detected changes.
