It is because over time there became less oxygen in the world . in the animal and human body oxygen travels round for energy,to keep the blood pumping and is vital for every organ such as lungs as the oxygen levels droped so did the size of the animals so they could survive with less .

Why animals become smaller?

This matters because body size affects everything, from the ability to catch food to the chances of escaping from predators to finding a mate.
