Interlining is the piece of fabric that is sandwiched between the fabric and the back lining. It gives the curtain extra weight to help it drape more beautifully but it has other purposes including insulation, noise reduction, to reduce transparency, and to give the curtain a softer look and feel.
Do you need to interline curtains?
Interlining comes in different weights, thickness and finishes. The main fabric acts as the first barrier to the escaping heat and the interlining and lining trap the air keeping you warmer. Interlining not only helps minimize heat loss but makes the curtains look and drape better.
Is interlining necessary?
Combining interlinings
In some cases, it is necessary to use more than one interlining, since one does not have enough effect on its own. For example, when using a fine fabric for a full skirt it may need density, additional body and prevention of creasing.
