Carlson introduced this phrase to his own Marine troops but it didnt really catch on until 1943 when Randolph Scott portrayed a Marine in a movie called Gung Ho!

What does gung-ho stand for?

It means Work Together — Work in Harmony." (Again, it did not.) He went on: "My motto caught on and they began to call themselves the Gung Ho Battalion.

Why are you so gung-ho?

If you say that someone is gung ho, you mean that they are very enthusiastic or eager to do something, for example to fight in a battle.
