Why Does Impaction Occur?

Fecal impaction is a potential complication of chronic constipation. The development of constipation can be related to a diet low in fiber, limited fluid intake, medication side effects, lack of physical activity, or conditions affecting the colon, rectum or anus.

What causes people to be impacted?

The kind of chronic constipation that can lead to fecal impaction can itself have a variety of causes, but the three typical factors are insufficient water intake, insufficient dietary fiber, and decreased colon motility.

Can you still poop when impacted?

Once fecal impaction occurs, the intestine will not be able to remove the feces from the body through the normal contraction process. Hence, it's typically impossible to excrete wastes from the body, defecate, or poop with impacted feces.
