Why Does My Rabbit Scratch His Ear

Rabbits scratch their ears to loosen up the wax in their ears to help clean them. It’s a good idea to check inside your rabbit’s ears to make sure there is no wax build-up. Or another type of debris, such as ear mites or an ear infection. If you think something is wrong it’s time for a vet check.

How do I know if my rabbit has ear mites?

  1. Scratching and/or shaking their head or ears.
  2. Chewing their ears.
  3. Inflammation and crusting of the external ear canal of one or both ears.
  4. Crusting on the pinna flaps of one or both ears.
  5. Evidence of scratching at the skin of the neck, cheeks or base of the ears.

Why do rabbits rub their ears?

This is when a rabbit’s shakes their head to make their ears flop around a little. There are three reasons rabbits might do this: They are happy. Sometimes this is a mini binky and your rabbit is twitching their head to show they are happy.
