Why Eve and Stevie J Split

Eve and Stevie J were once in one of the hottest celebrity relationships of the ’90s. The rapper and the music producer were even engaged, but they broke up before they could make it to the altar. So what happened between the two music powerhouses?

Why did Eve and Stevie J break up?

Eve was only 19 years old when she met Stevie J, and sparks flew. She called the producer and Love & Hip Hop star her first love and even wrote the hit song “Got a Man” about him. 

However, the relationship soon went south when Eve found out Stevie J cheated on her with multiple women. The producer had a known history of infidelity, and the news didn’t surprise many observers.

In addition to facing Stevie J’s cheating, the couple also had to weather a sex tape scandal. While the two were together, they filmed some intimate moments that ended up in the wrong hands. Eve was blackmailed by someone who asked for a large sum of money in exchange for the videotape. 

However, the rapper refused to give in to blackmail, and the tape ended up online. Though some accusers have claimed Stevie J was the one who gave the video to the blackmailer, Eve revealed in her episode of Behind the Music that a former girlfriend sold the tape. 

Eve discusses her ‘toxic’ relationship with Stevie J 

The relationship was challenging, and Eve still talks about it emotionally. In a 2020 episode of the BET show Ruff Ryders: Chronicles, the rapper opened up about the relationship.

“I was … in a relationship that was very toxic. That wasn’t working,” Eve said. 

“It wasn’t good because here is this person that I thought was the love of my life, is just so unsupportive. It was just so much competition,” she continued. “I went through a depression. I was drinking a lot … and trying to bury emotions.”

Her emotional state got so bad that the artist even dropped out of a tour early to take care of herself and her mental health. However, Eve has put her toxic relationship with the producer behind her and is happily married.
