Why Is Coaxial Cable Used

Coaxial cable is commonly used by cable operators, telephone companies, and internet providers around the world to convey data, video, and voice communications to customers. It has also been used extensively within homes.

Why do I need a coax cable for internet?

Cable broadband uses coaxial cable to bring the signal in, and sometimes optic fiber service actually uses coaxial cable to bring the signal from the street to the home. That signal wire needs to be connected to a modem and then a router to broadcast the signal wirelessly, which is WiFI.

Can you have a router without a coax cable?

You can reach a router through internet arriving via twisted pairs from a telephone company, without using coax. You can’t reach a router, however, if it is separate from the modem and not incorporated within it, WITHOUT ETHERNET CABLE.
